Laredo, Texas – Border Patrol agents from the Laredo North station disrupted an attempt to smuggle cocaine today.

Earlier this morning, agents patrolling in the vicinity of Riverside Drive observed a suspicious sedan parked along the street near a warehouse. As the agents turned their vehicle around to investigate, the sedan sped away. The agents drove a short distance and found the car abandoned near the intersection of Riverside Drive and Geronimo Drive. The driver of the sedan had apparently hit the curb, severely damaging a front tire and rendering the car inoperable. The passenger door of the car was open and no one was inside. Agents searched the immediate area around the vehicle but did not locate anyone.

Inside the vehicle agents found three duffel bags that contained 88 bundles of cocaine with a total weight of 229.4 pounds and an estimated value of $7.3 million.

The drugs and the car were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

To report suspicious activity such as drug and/or alien smuggling, contact the Laredo Sector Border Patrol toll free telephone number at 1-800-343-1994.
