United States Historical Census Data (http://fisher.lib.virginia.edu/collections/stats/histcensus/)
Provides information from the U.S. censuses taken each ten years from 1790 to 1960. For the censuses from 1870 to 1960, it includes the number of persons in the U.S. who reported that they were born outside the United States, but only from certain countries. Luxembourg is included from 1890 forward, whereas some countries are not included until 1920. To access that information first choose a year from the left column. Then select "Place of Birth," and scroll down to "Number of ... persons born in [name of country]." Select that category, page down to the end of the screen, and click "Browse 19xx Data." The result is a list by (U.S.) state of the number of persons born in that country. The data can be viewed as a graph by clicking "Graph states."
