  • An examination of the 10-year arrest trend (1996-2005) showed that, nationwide, the number of males arrested decreased 7.6 percent, but the number of females arrested increased 7.4 percent.
  • Despite the increase in the number of females arrested, the number of juvenile females (under age 18) arrested declined 14.3 percent in the 10-year period. The number of juvenile males arrested decreased 28.7 percent.
  • The number of males arrested for violent crimes in 2005 fell 15.1 percent from the number in 1996; however, for those same years, the number of females arrested for violent crimes rose 4.4 percent.
  • For both genders, the number of juveniles arrested for violent crimes was down in the 10-year trend. The number of males under age 18 arrested was down 27.9 percent, and the number of females in this age group arrested was down 10.2 percent.
  • For property crimes, the number of males arrested declined 26.6 percent, and the number of females arrested decreased 10.7 percent.
  • Data for juveniles showed that the number of males arrested for property crimes decreased 49.3 percent, and the number of females arrested for property crimes declined 29.1 percent in the 10-year period.
  • For both males and females, the number of persons arrested for drug abuse violations increased significantly in 2005 when compared with the 1996 number. The number of males arrested for this offense was up 21.0 percent, and the number of females arrested rose 41.7 percent.
  • The number of juvenile females arrested for drug abuse violations increased 14.4 percent, but the number of juvenile males arrested decreased 13.6 percent for the same offense.
