Chargé d’affaires Keith Eddins gave interviews to TV Markíza and TV Joj on January 23, echoing President Obama’s words on the closing of the prison at Guantanamo Bay. Mr. Eddins also appeared alongside Amnesty International’s Branislav Tichý on TA3’s live political talk show that evening to discuss President Obama’s decision. Eddins drove home the point that a review of our procedures will be undertaken, the prison will be closed and the U.S. will not engage in torture. In each interview Eddins pointed out that for years our European interlocutors have been urging the U.S. to close the prison, then said that the U.S. is asking more of itself and, in turn, will ask more of our friends and allies to help make the closure of the prison a reality.
