Alarm name: GMH Low Level Gas
Description:
This alarm indicates that flammable gas in excess of 5% of the lower explosive limit has been detected in the Gas Mixing House (GMH) by the flammable gas detector system. This alarm is a warning only and has no automatic consequences.
Equipment Location:
The flammable gas sensors are located in the Gas Mixing House gas room. The flammable gas monitor is located in the PHENIX control room in rack PCR.0.4.
Reason for Alarm:
Flammable gas in excess of 5% of the lower explosive limit has been detected in the Gas Mixing House by the flammable gas detector system.
Alarm Response:
This is a warning only, and does not have any automatic consequences. The actions to be followed are:
  • Go to the GMH flammable gas monitor and determine which channel is responsible for the alarm, and the level of flammable gas detected.
  • Enter all details in the log book.
  • Reset the alarm if possible.
  • If it is not possible to reset the alarm, then call Main Control (x4662) and ask to have CAS bring a flammable gas sniffer to check for the presence of flammable gas.
  • If no flammable gas can be found, call Paul Giannotti (x3815, pager 7168, home 821-3486) and notify him of a problem with the alarm system.
  • If flammable gas is found, call the gas system expert.
