bullet Gamewell-FCI Recalls to Upgrade Software Used with Fire Alarm System Control Panels
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Gamewell-FCI, of Northford, Conn., is voluntarily recalling about 1,100 Gamewell-FCI 600 Series SmartScan Fire Alarm Control Panels. The software in the fire alarm system could fail to recognize when a detector needs servicing as a result of the buildup of dust, dirt, or other environmental pollutants, which could result in the system failing to respond in the event of a fire.
bullet Tree Stand Manufacturer Sued For Late Reporting of Injuries To the Government
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced today the filing of a lawsuit against Ardisam Inc., of Cumberland, Wis., in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin. The lawsuit alleges that Ardisam failed to report in a timely manner, as required by federal law, serious injuries with the Big Foot and Lite Foot Series hunting tree stands. In July 2004, these tree stands were the subject of a recall.
bullet Pacifiers Decorated with Crystals Recalled Due to Aspiration and Ingestion Hazards
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Dara Linda's Baby Bling and Jewelry Design, of Davie, Fla.; Bling Toes, of Cherry Valley, Ill.; Baby Bling Things, of Appleton, Wis.; PeaNaPod Bling and Accessories, of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and MJM Crystal Designs, of Boca Raton, Fla., are voluntarily recalling about 1,000 Pacifiers. These pacifiers fail to meet federal safety standards for pacifiers. The pacifiers' crystals can separate easily, posing an aspiration and ingestion hazard to young children.
bullet The Toro Company Recalls Electric Blowers Due to Projectile Hazards
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), The Toro Company, of Bloomington, Minn., is voluntarily recalling about 900,000 Toro Power Sweep Electric Blowers. The blower's impeller, which is a rotating component on the blower, can break, resulting in pieces of plastic flying out of the blower. This poses a risk of serious injury to the user or a bystander.
bullet Frozen Carbonated Beverage Dispensers Recalled by IMI Cornelius Due to Fire Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), IMI Cornelius, of Osseo, Minn., is voluntarily recalling about 8,000 Frozen Carbonated Drink Dispensers. A problem with the dispenser's florescent lamp can cause electrical arcing, which poses a fire hazard to consumers.
bullet Coldwater Creek Recalls Sweaters Due to Burn Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Coldwater Creek, of Sandpoint, Idaho, is voluntarily recalling about 3,500 Shawl Collar Sweaters. The sweaters fail to meet Federal flammability requirements. Should the sweater come in contact with an ignition source, such as a stove burner, candle flame or cigarette lighter, it could catch fire and cause serious burns to consumers.
bullet Pottery Barn Kids Recalls Crib Bumpers Due to Entanglement Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Pottery Barn Kids, of San Francisco, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 31,000 Matelassé Crib Bumpers. The decorative stitching on the bumper's edge can come loose, posing an entanglement hazard to young children.
bullet Sauder Woodworking Recalls TV Stands Due to Collapse Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Sauder Woodworking Co., of Archbold, Ohio, is voluntarily recalling about 414,000 TV Stands. The TV stand can collapse if the fasteners used to connect the metal legs to the lower shelf are not completely tightened during assembly, posing a risk that the TV set can fall onto children or adults.
bullet Risk of Explosion and Hearing Damage Prompts Recall of Remote Control Airplanes
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), about 21,000 Sky Rangers Park Flyer Radio Control Airplanes (distributed by Estes-Cox Corp., of Penrose, Colo.) are being voluntarily recalling. The airplanes are launched by hand and can explode near the consumer's head, posing a risk of temporary hearing loss and injuries to eyes, face and hands.
bullet New Mexico Company Fined, Ordered To Stop Selling Illegal Fireworks Components
At sentencing, United Nuclear Scientific Supplies LLC, of Edgewood, N.M., founded and operated by Robert Lazar, was fined $7,500 and received three years probation. The firm violated federal law which prohibits the sale of chemicals and components used to make illegal fireworks.
bullet Black & Decker Recalls Trimmers/Edgers Due to Laceration Hazard from Projectiles
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Black & Decker (U.S.) Inc., of Towson, Md., is voluntarily recalling about 202,000 Black & Decker GH1000 Grasshog XP String Trimmer/Edgers. The trimmer/edger's spool, spool cap and pieces of trimmer string can come loose during use and become airborne projectiles, posing a laceration hazard to the user as well as bystanders. The trimmer/edgers can also overheat posing a burn hazard to consumers.
bullet Reclining Lounge Chairs Sold at Menard Stores Recalled for Collapsing Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Yotrio International LLC, of Orinda, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 15,000 Lounge Chairs. Faulty support brackets and/or weak frames can cause the chairs to collapse, posing a fall and severe laceration hazard to consumers.
bullet CVS/pharmacy Announces Recall of Playskool Sippy Cups; Poses Choking Hazard To Young Children
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), CVS/pharmacy, of Woonsocket, R.I., is voluntarily recalling about 84,000 Playskool Toddler "NoSpill" Sippy Cups. Young children can chew through the plastic spout of the sippy cup, which can pose a choking hazard.
bullet New Easy-Bake Oven Recall Following Partial Finger Amputation; Consumers Urged to Return Toy Ovens
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Easy-Bake, a division of Hasbro, Inc., of Pawtucket, R.I, is voluntarily recalling about 1 million Easy-Bake Ovens. Young children can insert their hands into the oven's front opening, and get their hands or fingers caught, posing entrapment and burn hazards.
bullet Atico International USA Recalls Coffeemakers Sold Exclusively at Walgreens Due to Fire Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Atico International USA Inc., of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is voluntarily recalling about 392,000 Signature Gourmet™ and Kitchen Gourmet® 12-Cup Coffeemakers. The coffeemaker can ignite due to an electrical failure, posing a fire hazard.
bullet Additional Incidents Prompt Log Splitter Recall Expansion by Brave Products; Could Pose Serious Injury Risk
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Brave Products Inc., of Streator, Ill., is voluntarily recalling about 8,000 Log Splitters (4,000 additional units were recalled in February 2005). The log splitter's hydraulic cylinders can have defective rod retention, causing the seals to leak and the rods to detach. This can result in serious injury to the operator, as the rod can rapidly and unexpectedly extend the splitting wedge.
bullet Brake Cylinder Recalled By Magura USA for Brake Failure Hazard on Off-Road Motorcycles
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Magura USA, of Olney, Ill., is voluntarily recalling about 200 "190" Radial Brake Master Cylinders (used on off-road motorcyles). The brake cylinder on the off-road motorcycle can crack and result in brake failure. This poses a risk of severe injury or death to the driver.
bullet Children's Earrings Sold at Wal-Mart Stores in Florida Recalled by Uncas Manufacturing Co. Due to Lead Poisoning Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Uncas Manufacturing Company, of Providence, RI, is voluntarily recalling about 220 Sleeping Beauty Crown and Cinderella Star Earring Sets. The recalled metal earring sets contain high levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.
bullet Vance Kitira Recalls Cinnamon Spice Candles Due to Fire Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Vance Kitira International, of Little Falls, N.J., is voluntarily recalling about 2,000 Cinnamon Spice Candles. There are no instructions on the candle warning consumers to remove the cinnamon sticks and trim the wick before lighting the candle. The cinnamon sticks can ignite, posing a fire hazard.
bullet AAFES Expands Recall of "Soldier Bear" Toy Sets Due to Lead Poisoning Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), AAFES (Army & Air Force Exchange Service), of Dallas, Texas, is voluntarily recalling about 13,000 Soldier Bear Brand Toy Sets (about 3,000 Invincibles Transport Converter Toy Sets were recalled on May 23, 2007). Surface paints on the toy action figures, dinosaurs and animals contain high levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.
bullet Injuries Prompt Recall of Combination Tire Inflator and Hand Pumps by Genuine Innovations
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Innovations In Cycling Inc., doing business as Genuine Innovations, of Tucson, Ariz., is voluntarily recalling about 55,000 Combination Tire Inflator and Hand Pumps. The combination tire inflator and hand pump can shatter under pressure when inflating tires if there is a blockage in the tire valve, posing the risk of bruises, lacerations, and ringing in the ears to consumers.
bullet Sportsman's Warehouse Recalls Flashlights; Counterfeit Batteries Can Overheat, Posing a Fire Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Sportsman's Warehouse, of Midvale, Utah, is voluntarily recalling about 4,400 Xenon Aluminum Flashlights. The batteries packaged with the recalled flashlights are labeled as "Panasonic CR123A Industrial Lithium" and have been determined by Panasonic to be counterfeit. The counterfeit batteries can overheat and rupture, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers.
bullet Payless ShoeSource Expands Recall of Children's Clog Shoes Due to Choking Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Payless ShoeSource, Inc., of Topeka, Kan., is voluntarily recalling about 270,000 Toddler Clog Shoes (about 690,000 clogs were recalled on May 2, 2007). Plastic rivets used to attach the strap to the shoe can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children.
bullet Petters Consumer Brands Recalls Sunbeam Over-the-Range Microwaves for Fire Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Petters Consumer Brands LLC, of Minnetonka, Minn., is voluntarily recalling about 300 Sunbeam Over-the-Range Microwaves. Internal electrical arcing in the microwave can pose a fire hazard to consumers.
bullet Meyer Recalls Cooking Torches Due to Fire Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Meyer Corporation, U.S., of Vallejo, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 4,400 (about 40 with consumers) BonJour® Professional Culinary Torches. Butane fuel can leak from the torch assembly near the nozzle, posing a fire hazard.
bullet Batteries Used with Power Tools Recalled by Milwaukee Electric Tool Co. Due To Laceration Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Milwaukee Electric Tool Co., of Brookfield, Wis., is voluntarily recalling about 1 million Milwaukee Power Plus, Chicago Pneumatic, and Extractor 14.4 and 18 volt 2.4 Ah NiCd battery packs. If a vent on the battery cell is damaged or compromised during use, the battery can explode and pose a laceration hazard to consumers.
bullet Ol' Man Treestands Recalled by TSR Inc.; Locking Pins Can Unexpectedly Fall Out, Posing a Fall Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), TSR Inc., of Jay, Fla., is voluntarily recalling about 9,000 treestands, and about 500 replacement pin sets sold separately. The locking pins in the treestands can come out unexpectedly, exposing consumers to possible injury due to a fall.
bullet Children's Metal Jewelry Recalled by Future Industries Due to Lead Poisoning Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Future Industries, of Cliffwood Beach, N.J., is voluntarily recalling about 20,000 Essentials for Kids Jewelry Sets. The recalled metal jewelry sets contain high levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.
bullet Serious Intestinal Injury Prompts Kipp Brothers Recall of Mag Stix Magnetic Building Sets
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Kipp Brothers, of Carmel, Ind., is voluntarily recalling about 800 Mag Stix Magnetic Building Sets. Small magnets inside the plastic sticks can fall out. Magnets found by young children can be swallowed or aspirated. If more than one magnet is swallowed, the magnets can attract each other and cause intestinal perforation or blockage, which can be fatal.
bullet Infantino Recalls Children's Toy Castles Due to Choking Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Infantino LLC, of San Diego, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 68,000 Shape Sorting Toy Castles. The plastic rod can come loose allowing the colored counting beads to slide off of the toy, posing a choking hazard to young children.
bullet Hammock Stands Recalled by The Algoma Net Co. Due to Fall Hazard
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), The Algoma Net Co., of Algoma, Wis., is voluntarily recalling about 3,000 Hammock Stands. The foot brackets on the hammock frame can crack or tear, causing a consumer to fall to the ground.
