Values reported are for one soil unless the entry under the soils column lists more than one number, in which case values are averaged for more than one soil of the same age at at the same study site. Soil identifiers are listed for most sites, except that for Coyote Mountains (CM) soils, the geomorphic surface (Q2, etc.) is followed by the total number of soils of that age used to obtain the average. Best, minimum, and maximum ages were assigned by references listed in file "dsolproc.doc" for all but the S- soils. Ages of S- soils were assigned by comparisons of soil development index values to those of soils of known age (see files "dsolproc.doc" and "dsindprn.xls").Interval age is the period of time between the formation of one surface and the formation of the next younger surface. Total mass is the total amount of a pedogenic component (silt, etc.) in a soil profile in grams per square centimeter added through the thickness of each horizon and summed for the profile (or averaged when there is more than one soil of the same age at the same study site).Interval mass is the amount of a pedogenic component that accumulated during a specific time interval. It is obtained by subtracting the amount of a pedogenic component present in a soil or soils of one age from that present in the soils of the next older age at the same study site.

Interval rate is the rate of accumulation of a pedogenic component in a soil or soils on a surface during the time interval between the formation of that surface and the formation of the next younger surface. It is obtained by dividing the interval mass by the interval rate.
