Tucson, Ariz. – Border Patrol agents assigned to the Casa Grande Border Patrol Station discovered 103 bundles of marijuana hidden in an abandoned vehicle near the Village of San Miguel, Ariz. on the Tohono O’odham Reservation yesterday.

Agents were patrolling in the area when they discovered vehicle tracks heading north, away from the border. The tracks led to an abandoned pickup and camper shell. As agents approached the truck, they observed what appeared to be bundles of marijuana through the windows. Further investigation led to the discovery of 103 bundles of marijuana weighing a combined 2,517 pounds.

The truck was found to have been reported stolen out of Nogales, Ariz., and was turned over to the Tohono O’odham Police Department for recovery services. The 2,517 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $2,014,160 was remanded to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

This seizure, one of several made this week, is testimony to the operational effectiveness of enforcement strategies within Tucson Sector.

Border Patrol Agents in the Tucson Sector have seized more than 156,300 pounds of marijuana, in just the first two months of fiscal year 2008 (October and November).
