Abstract	This article gives an overview of different methods and products for helping railroads deal with problems of severe winter weather. It describes switch clearing and protection devices, hot box detectors, dragging equipment detectors, derail mechanisms, rail and track heating systems, anti-icing agents, snow blowers, snow detectors, and automatic deicing control systems.
