Abstract	Cast material GGG40, a modular cast iron-carbon material in which the carbon present in the form of graphite occurs mostly in a largely spherical form, is discussed. The mechanical properties and fracture mechanics of the material and castings, with regard to safety standards and evaluation of shipping and storage containers, is addressed.
