The HIGH-RADON PROJECT:
NURE: County Uranium Concentrations

This is a map of county surficial uranium concentrations for the United States, developed by averaging the uranium data in each county from the database of Duval et al. ("Equivalent uranium map of conterminous United States," U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 89-478, 1989, 12 pages), which was based on the data from the National Uranium Resource Evaluation program, conducted by the U.S. Department of Energy in the 1970s. The uranium concentrations serve as an indicator of surficial radium concentrations, and hence of radon generated in the soil. The county-averaged uranium values are available as a small data file [link to NURE-cty in files, when available], and the full set of U.S. data is available from the USGS.
