1 The transportation and warehousing
sector (North American Industrial Classification System [NAICS] 48 and 49)
includes industries providing transportation of passengers and cargo,
warehousing and storage for goods, scenic and sightseeing transportation, and
support activities related to modes of transportation. Establishments in these industries use
transportation equipment or transportation related facilities as a productive
asset. The type of equipment depends
on the mode of transportation. The
modes of transportation included are: air transportation, water
transportation, truck transportation, transit and ground passenger
transportation, pipeline transportation, scenic and sightseeing
transportation, support activities for transportation, postal service,
couriers and messengers, and warehousing and storage. The data do not include government, railroad
transportation, nor self-employed persons.
