• GFO in general tracks better than GEOSAT even in fine mode even in fine mode.
• GFO results over the polar ice sheets will add to our topograhic knowledge giving denser coverage than ERS-1,2 south of 72 deg.
• GFO tracker mode switches do not always look optimal.

• We need written confirmation of altimeter tracker parameter in coarse and fine mode: - tracking position for telemetered height. - exact gate resolution for each mode.
• Agreement for cal/val work included all Greenland ice sheet altimetry in long mode- only have at most 1 descending pass per day.
• NASA/GSFC Global Climate Change Studies require all Greenland and Antarctica altimetry in long mode.
