Geosat Follow-On (GFO)

Artist's concept of GFO Satellite
Artist's concept of GFO Satellite

Overview

The Navy's Geosat Follow-On (GFO) satellite was launched on February 1998 with the aim of continuing ocean observations started by the highly successfull Geosat mission. It is one of a few Radar Altimetry Satellites, which included SeaSat, GeoSat, ERS-1, ERS-2, and TOPEX/POSEIDON. Data meausurements from these satellites will provide scientists with better understanding of ocean circulation, ice sheet topography, and climate change.
