REP. ANDREWS SUPPORTS WORKER RELIEF FUNDING
October 4, 2001

President Bush today announced that he has will extend unemployment benefits and provide $3 billion in emergency aid to workers laid off due to the economic downturn experienced since the September 11 attacks.  This funding was apportioned to the President by Congress immediately following the attacks as part of a $40 Billion dollar emergency aid package, which I supported.

This funding will enable those who have lost their jobs in the last several weeks to qualify for funding to be used for variety of needs including health insurance, day care and job training.  Unemployment benefits will be extended to 13 weeks of unemployment benefits here in New Jersey to give workers a longer cushion to get back on their feet.  Individuals who were working on Sept. 11 and are not eligible for regular unemployment benefits may still qualify for assistance.

For more information on whether you qualify for this emergency funding, please contact my office. (Click here for contact info.)
