NEWS! --- (March 10, 2009) Libidn Updated Libidn, version 1.13, packages have been added. GNU libidn is an implementation of stringprep, punycode, and IDNA specifications.

NEWS! --- (March 10, 2009) Bash 4.0 Packages with network redirections disabled added Bash, version 4.0, packages have been added. Bash is an sh-compatible shell that incorporates useful features from the Korn shell (ksh) and C shell (csh). This bash package was built with --disable-net-redirections to satisfy security issues raised by some system administrators.

NEWS! --- (March 10, 2009) Memconf Updated The Memconf memory module checker has been updated to version 2.10. (SPARC/Solaris 2.5-10 and x86/Solaris 10 only).

GNU Coreutils are a set of basic file, shell, and text manipulation utilities for the GNU operating system that are expected to exist on every operating system. NEWS! --- (February 15, 2009) JDiskReport Added JDiskReport packages, version 1.3.1 have been added. JDiskReport enables you to understand how much space the files and directories consume on your disk drives, and it helps you find obsolete files and folders. This is a java program requiring Java 5 or higher.

NEWS! --- (February 15, 2009) Disktype Added Disktype packages, version 9 have been added. The purpose of disktype is to detect the content format of a disk or disk image. It knows about common file systems, partition tables, and boot codes.

NEWS! --- (February 14, 2009) Snarf Added Snarf packages, version 7.0 have been added. Snarf is a command line resource grabber. It can transfer files through the http, gopher, finger, and ftp protocols without user interaction.

NEWS! --- (February 7, 2009) Ghostscript Updated Ghostscript, version 8.64, has been added. PostScript and PDF previewing, conversion, and printing.

NEWS! --- (February 6, 2009) Asciidoc Added Asciidoc packages, version 8.3.5 have been added. AsciiDoc is a text document format for writing short documents, articles, books and UNIX man pages. AsciiDoc files can be translated to HTML and DocBook markups using the asciidoc command.

NEWS! --- (February 5, 2009) Convmv Added Convmv packages, version 1.14, have been added. Convmv converts filenames (not file content), directories, and even whole filesystems to a different encoding.

NEWS! --- (February 3, 2009) Dovecot Updated Dovecot packages, version 1.1.10, have been added. Dovecot is an IMAP and POP3 server.

NEWS! --- (February 2, 2009) Autogen Updated Autogen, version 5.9.7, has been added. AutoGen is a tool to simplify the creation and maintenance of programs that contain large amounts of repetitious text. (Solaris 2.6-10)

NEWS! --- (February 1, 2009) Aspell Updated Aspell, version 0.60.6, has been added. Aspell is a spell checker and set of libraries that can be used in spell checking.

NEWS! --- (January 31, 2009) Net-SNMP Updated Net-SNMP, version 5.4.2.1, has been added. The NET-SNMP (formerly UCD-SNMP) package contains various tools relating to the Simple Network Management Protocol. (Contains Security Related Updates)

NEWS! --- (January 27, 2009) Syslog-ng Updated Syslog-ng, version 3.0.1, packages have been added. Syslog-ng is a syslogd replacement, but with new functionality.

NEWS! --- (January 26, 2009) Lzip Updated Lzip, version 1.4, packages added. Lzip is a lossless file compressor based on the LZMA (Lempel-Ziv-Markov chain-Algorithm) algorithm.

NEWS! --- (January 26, 2009) Solview Updated Solview packages, version 0.45, have been added. The solview application, written by Peter Tribble, is a simple java utility to display information about a Solaris 10 system. It gives information on installed software (clusters and packages), services running, and output from useful commands.

NEWS! --- (January 26, 2009) Xbindkeys Updated Xbindkeys packages, version 1.8.3, have been added. This program grabs keys in X and starts the corresponding shell command.

NEWS! --- (January 23, 2009) Intltool Added Intltool packages, version 0.40.3, have been added. The internationalization tool collection (intltool) can be used to extract translatable strings from various source files, collect the extracted strings together with messages from traditional source files (.c, .h), and merge translations from .po files into .xml, .desktop, and .oaf files.

NEWS! --- (January 13, 2009) Memcached Updated Memcached, version 1.2.6, has been added for Solaris 10. Memcached is a distributed memory object caching system.

NEWS! --- (January 13, 2009) Httpry Added Httpry packages, version 0.1.4, have been added. Httpry is a specialized packet sniffer designed for displaying and logging HTTP traffic.

NEWS! --- (January 12, 2009) Cronolog Added Cronolog packages, version 1.6.2, have been added. Cronolog is a simple filter program that reads log file entries from standard input and writes each entry to the output file specified by a filename template and the current date and time.

NEWS! --- (December 20, 2008) Pca Updated Pca, version 20081218-01, has been added. PCA, Patch Check Advanced, generates a list of installed and missing patches for Solaris systems and optionally downloads patches.

NEWS! --- (December 20, 2008) Bosh Added Bosh, version 0.5, has been added. Bosh stands for browsable output shell. It isn't really a shell. What is does is store the output of a specified program in a buffer and provides a simple curses interface to browse this buffer. Actions can be configured which can make use of the contents of the currently selected line.

NEWS! --- (December 20, 2008) Sudo Updated Sudo packages, version 1.7.0, have been added. Sudo (superuser do) allows a system administrator to give certain users (or groups of users) the ability to run some (or all) commands as root while logging all commands and arguments.

NEWS! --- (December 13, 2008) Chkrootkit Updated Chkrootkit, version 0.48, packages have been added. Chkrootkit is a tool to locally check for signs of a rootkit.

NEWS! --- (December 8, 2008) Xtail Added Xtail, version 2.1, has been added. Xtail watches the growth of files. It's like running a tail -f on a bunch of files at once.

NEWS! --- (December 7, 2008) Ming Added Ming, version 0.4.2, has been added. Ming is a library for generating Macromedia Flash files (.swf), written in C, and includes useful utilities for working with .swf files.

Solaris is my favourite OS, and Sunfreeware.com is an invaluable extension of it. Actually, I always thought Sunfreeware was part of Sun before this noon.

Introduction

Welcome to the archive of pre-compiled free software for Sun Microsystems Solaris 2.5, 2.6, and 7-10 operating systems. This project is an extension of an effort that has been providing Solaris software for both SPARC and Intel architectures since 1994. It is an outgrowth of the SunSITE project.

You will see a list of the programs ported to Solaris 2.5, 2.6, 7, 8, 9, and Solaris 10 for SPARC and Intel/AMD processors in the frame to the right. Select your architecture first, then the programs available will be listed in the window at the lower right. Click on the program you want and it will appear in the center windows. These lists will be updated frequently, so check back often.

Before you use any of the programs here, PLEASE read the documents at the links to the upper left, especially the Downloading/Installation, and FAQ links. You will save yourself a lot of time and email if you know what to do with the resources here before you download anything.

I have added links File Sizes and MD5 Checksums links that contain all the file sizes in bytes and the results of running the md5 program on the files.

The FTP/Mirror Sites link, which is updated periodically, will take you to other sites that contain some or all of the information given here. Some of these sites do not update very often, so you may want to check back here periodically.

I have included a page on how the packages here were created. This Creating Packages has proven useful to a lot of other system administrators and those who want to distribute software in the pkgadd format.
