This accretion to a series of aerial photographic film, 1940–70, consists of 45 accessions including vertical and oblique sequential photographic negatives in roll format. Both urban and rural areas of the United States are represented with emphasis on coastal and navigable inland harbors and waterways, military installations, and airfields throughout the country. The coverage for areas of the world outside the United States is concentrated on areas of World War II and immediate post war U.S. military activities and facilities. Materials open and processed. This series, Operations Crossroads [Classified] 1946, consists of vertical and oblique photographic images of the preparations for, the executing of, and the aftermath of the atomic bomb tests of July 1, 1946, and July 25, 1946 (Operation Crossroads). These tests took place at the Bikini Atoll and included a target fleet that consisted of surface ships and submarines. Cameras were mounted on towers on Bikini Atoll and Enyu Island as well as on airplanes. These records were moved to cold secure stacks. Materials are processed. Accession NN3-181-00-002.
