Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Evan Feigenbaum Addresses the American-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce

(10/03/2006)

On October 3, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Evan A. Feigenbaum addressed the 10th Annual Conference of the American-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce, held in Washington, D.C.

During his remarks, he emphasized that despite recent “serious disappointments” in its relationship with Uzbekistan and “very strong differences” about what happened in Andijon in May 2005 and the human rights situation in Uzbekistan, the United States remains deeply committed to Central Asia and to building a stronger and mutually beneficial relationship with the Uzbek people.  He cited common interests such as fighting terrorism, stabilizing Afghanistan, managing transnational threats and cooperating in the commercial sector.
