FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Wheeling Resident Sentenced To Five Years
For Drug-Related Offense

WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA — A 45 year old Wheeling resident was sentenced on August 27, 2008, in United States District Court in Wheeling by Judge Frederick P. Stamp, Jr.

United States Attorney Sharon L. Potter announced that TERESA WOODS, also known as “RENEGADE,” was sentenced to 60 months imprisonment to be followed by three years supervised release. WOODS entered a plea of guilty on May 5, 2008, to one count of an Indictment charging her with aiding and abetting others in the interstate travel between Cleveland, Ohio, and Wheeling, West Virginia, with the intent to distribute “crack” cocaine on December 19, 2007.

According to U. S. Attorney Potter and information presented in Court, on December 19, 2007, the Wheeling Police Department received information that WOODS had borrowed a vehicle to drive two Cleveland drug dealers to Cleveland and back so they could re-supply with drugs to sell in Wheeling from a residence on Bow Street. The Ohio Valley Drug Task Force, knowing WOODS did not have a valid drivers license, set up surveillance and later observed WOODS driving a Chrysler Concorde and conducted a traffic stop on Bow Street. After obtaining consent to search the vehicle, agents recovered 9.4 grams of “crack” cocaine. The “crack” was found on the two Cleveland dealers (Billy Jo Pipkins and William Woodland), as well as WOODS’ purse. Both Pipkins and Woodland have previously been sentenced (27 and 90 months respectively). WOODS’ sentence was enhanced because of her extensive criminal record, including multiple drug possessions, theft and prostitution convictions.

WOODS was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John C. Parr. The case was investigated by the Ohio Valley Drug & Violent Crimes Task Force. The task force consists of officers from the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Wheeling Police Department and the Ohio County Sheriff's Department.
