The ctd-data in 1990 is doubtful. Our ctd persons will go through it soon, so corrections may be possible. All stations 398-409 in 1990 have ctd-temperature in ctd-salinity column and vice versa as you suspected. Station 277 in 1990 has date 5 August and time 13:45. For year 1991 all your suggestions are okay, they should be (changes only): station lat long date time 516 7:39 517 8:18 518 8:53 521 2103 522 2107 523 2112 542 6148 543 6148 544 6148 545 6148 564 7 Nov 22:20 565 7 Nov 23:03 588 14:00 589 14:29 673 2107 674 2112 Stations 57 to 60 in 1992 should have times station time 57 9:25 58 10:56 59 11:10 60 13:40 and station 59 has longitude 25.5525. Stations 215, 246, 247, 252, 254, 255, 256 and 261 have error of one degree each in coordinates as you suggested. In 1993 station 404 has time 0709. Station 420 has coordinates 56.5610 (lat) and 18.4965 (long). I did not understand the suggestion to change fractions from 557621 to 143621. What do you mean? We have a big problem in our 1993 coordinates: Our software consultant made a change in coordinate saving system in October 1992, which is something else we want it to be. He didn't tell anybody, but I noticed that in May 1993. He made a correction that he brought to ship in the end of July 1993. His change in Oct 1992 was okay: it was easy to change the coordinates back to our format, but his correction in July 1993 has not worked correctly. So all coordinates from 26 July to the end of year 1993 are doubtful. This was found out last week. We are investigating them, which is a hard and desperate work. As soon as we get them corrected, I send them to you. For instance station 420 had wrong coordinates because of this. In 1994 station 5 has salinities: depth sal 0 3.97 10 3.98 40 4.70 60 6.67 Riitta 010994 Corrections implemented, ROSCOPised etc ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Submission 307a. However, as to you questions below, please find enclosed the following: 1. The content of .SUM file follows the guide lines given in the WOCE Operations Manual, WOCE Report No.67/91, Woods Hole Mass.. In this report, a full description of a .SUM file has been given in sect 2.2.2. 2. As to the data files, something peculiar has happened in conversation the data files to you. Actually, the indexing of CTD files and station summary files do correspond eachother (check done) but, a) for the station 288 data is really missing b) data of index 386 is the data from a shallow test station and this does not belong to the population and no station summary file for that has been given. Accordingly, remove please the data file 386 and we'll send the data of 288 soon. I hope that this clarifies the case. The salinity of the below 3 stations were all outliers - is it possible for you to check these for us? They might of course be OK, but just to be sure! N 021 17. E 05/05/88 04: > p T S > (m/db) (C) > 0000 03.81 03.12 The surface values should be S=7.32 and t=3.16. 130597 changed accordingly: 3(02) 34AR 0116 9880505 04 0000 0381 to 0316 (Temperature) 3(03) 34AR 0116 9880505 04 0000 0312 to 0732 (Salinity) The two other stations should be deleted from the data set, because they are combined (or intergrated) values from the whole surface layer. I thought that I already cancelled them all, but still there are some left! The checking of these recordings is at the final stage now. As soon as possible I'll compare them with the values in our basic data set (the same you have there) and send possible corrections to you. I hope you'll pass the warning to VKI. With best wishes yours Riitta *****************************************************************************
