BIO

Dr. Afroz J. Zaman is a research engineer for the Antenna, Microwave, and Optical Systems Branch of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Glenn Research Center at Lewis Field in Cleveland, Ohio. Her research interests include phased-array antennas for communications satellite applications, application of microelectromechanical (MEMS) technology in phased-array antennas, and innovative feeding techniques for printed antennas.

Dr. Zaman earned her doctoral degree in electrical engineering from the University of Houston and taught at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, prior to joining NASA. Her contribution to the investigation of the high-power ion thruster plasma plume impact on satellite communication signals led to the acceptance of the ion thruster as a propulsion device in NASA’s Deep Space 1 (DS–1) spacecraft. Dr. Zaman is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and Eta Kappa Nu. She came to the Communication Technology Division at Glenn Research Center in 1986.
