The primary responsibility of the four officers was to apprehend Asiatic or European aliens who might be attempting to enter illegally, and to apprehend smugglers of contraband, primarily liquor. From these humble beginnings, McAllen Station has grown in importance and size. Currently, the McAllen Station is responsible for 53 river miles and is comprised of two separate locations. "Operations" is located at 4201 West Military Highway, McAllen, Texas and "Management/Administration" is located in the former Sector Headquarters, now known as the Sector Annex, and located at 2301 South Main Street in McAllen. The West Military office is the base of operations for Agents, Supervisors and Field Operations Supervisors. The West Military office is also the base of operations for the Texas National Guard personnel assigned to the McAllen Station under Operation Jump Start. The South Main office provides office space for the Patrol Agent in Charge, the Assistant Patrol Agent in Charge, the Special Operations Supervisor and the support staff. The Rio Grande Valley Sector Garage Headquarters, Radio Communications Office, Supply Warehouse, Maintenance Office and Electronic Technicians Office also operate out of the South Main location. |
