Distinctions Between SAS/INSIGHT and JMP on PCs

SAS/INSIGHT and JMP software, both developed by SAS Institute Inc., provide similar functionality for data analysis on personal computers.

SAS/INSIGHT

A component of the SAS System, SAS/INSIGHT is a dynamic tool for exploring and analyzing your data. The easily learned, point-and-click interface enables you to achieve results quickly. With this software, you can examine univariate distributions and visualize multivariate data, as well as fit models using regression, analysis of variance and the generalized linear model.

Dynamically linked graphs and analyses make it easy to find patterns in your data. Once a pattern is spotted, powerful modeling facilities enable you to quickly build models and analyze relationships.

As a result of dynamic graphics, advanced modeling and integration with the SAS system, SAS/INSIGHT is a powerful tool for data analysis. More information is available from SAS Institute's Web pages.

JMP

JMP—pronounced "jump"—is a highly interactive environment for statistical visualization and exploratory data analysis. Like SAS/INSIGHT, JMP software's goal is to analyze data graphically. To find out more about JMP software, go to SAS Institute's web pages.

Distinctions between SAS/INSIGHT and JMP Software

Both programs are tools that provide exploratory data analysis (EDA) and both operate in a highly interactive environment.

Both do similar statistical tests. Although JMP does a few tests more than SAS/INSIGHT, test available in other SAS software provide tests for areas not covered in SAS/INSIGHT.

JMP is a standalone program that does not require any interaction from the SAS system. JMP is built like an instrument, not a language. You point and click rather than program or converse.

SAS/INSIGHT is a component of the SAS system and requires the SAS system software to make it run. You can also use it to explore output from any SAS procedure, and you can use any SAS procedure to analyze results from SAS/INSIGHT.

JMP quickly provides statistical analyses interactively. Most users want more in-depth analysis that comes with use of SAS/INSIGHT and other SAS procedures.
