WASHINGTON, D.C.—FEDERATED STATES OF MICRONESIA (FSM) ADOPTS RESOLUTION THANKING FALEOMAVAEGA FOR HIS VISIT TO FSM AS MEMBER OF U.S. CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION

Congressman Faleomavaega announced that on January 26, 2004 the Thirteenth Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia adopted Congressional Resolution  No. 13-85 thanking Faleomavaega for his visit to FSM as a member of the Congressional Delegation that visited during January 14-15, 2004.  The resolution reads --

WHEREAS, in spite of his hectic and busy schedule, the Honorable Eni Faleomavaega, a member of the House of Representatives of the U.S. Congress, who is also a member of the U.S. Congressional Delegation visiting the States of Micronesia, found it important enough to spend January 14-15, 2004 visiting the Federated States of Micronesia; and

WHEREAS, the Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia, speaking on behalf of the citizens thereof, finds it appropriate to convey profound gratitude and sincere appreciation to Representative Eni Faleomavaega for his visit; and

WHEREAS, it is the sincere hope of the Congress that he enjoyed his visit to the FSM; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the Thirteenth Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia, Third Special Session, 2004, that the Congress hereby conveys its profound gratitude and sincere appreciation to the Honorable Eni Faleomavaega, a member of the House of Representatives of the U.S. Congress, who is also a member of the U.S. Congressional Delegation visiting the Federated States of Micronesia, for blessing this Nation by his visit;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this resolution be transmitted to the President of the Federated States of Micronesia, the U.S. Ambassador to the Federated States of Micronesia, and to the Honorable Eni Faleomavaega.

“On March 15, 2004, I received a copy of this resolution in my office and I am deeply appreciative,” Congressman Faleomavaega said.  “As the Ranking Member of the House International Relations Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific, I worked closely with my colleagues, especially Chairman Leach of the Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific, and the Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Committee on Resources, to renew the Compact of Free Association for the FSM and the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI).”

“We also worked closely with the Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Committee on International Relations.  In January of this year, some of my colleagues and I also had the privilege of accompanying Chairman Richard Pombo of the Resources Committee and the Secretary of the Interior on a visit to the FSM, the RMI, Guam, and American Samoa.”

            “Only Members of Congress and key Hill staff who work on Territorial issues were invited to accompany my good friend, Republican Chairman Richard Pombo, and Secretary Norton on this historic visit.  I appreciate the FSM’s acknowledgement of our visit and I join with the people of American Samoa in wishing our cousins the very best,” the Congressman concluded.
