As directed by Federal guidelines, all Federal
Standards are to be periodically updated. This period is
usually a five-year span.
Federal Standard 1037, Glossary of Telecommunication Terms
was initially published in 1980. FS-1037 was updated and
published as FS-1037A in 1986. FS-1037A was updated and published
as FS-1037B in 1990.
ITS has been tasked by the NCS to upgrade and publish the
next document in the series, to be called FS-1037C. This work began in
Fiscal Year 1994 and is expected to be completed
by the end of FY 1995.
The Highlights of This Project
- Solicitation of Glossary terms to be added or changed.
Government
Agencies and other interested parties were invited to submit proposed
changes and additions to the Glossary. This task
was completed earlier this year. No new input will be accepted
for 1037C. New input will be saved for the anticipated upgrade
to 1037D, expected in approximately five years.
- A series of Resolution Meetings was held to examine the
received inputs. The Meeting Schedule was designed to cover 10 mettings over an 12-month
period. The meetings were completed as of September 1994.
- You can FTP the ZIP file that contains all of the pFS-1037C files zipped
into one file. This file is large (5.6 Meg), but Mosaic has a better time FTPing zipped
files than non-ZIPped files. Click
here to begin the transfer. Note: After the transfer, Mosaic may try to
automatically UNZIP the
file. This may have the unfortunate side effect of filling your C:\WINDOWS directory with
all the pFS-1037c files that were inside the ZIP file. To avoid this, use your
regular FTP software and transfer the file by hand. Log in anonymously to

- FS-1037B On Line. This is the pilot for translating the contents of
FS-1037B into
HTML format. After pFS-1037C is finalized, it will be translated into HTML format.
The people that work on creating pFS-1037C
- DISA also has a standards listing on line.
