Research Interests:
- Measuring and understanding current and future recreation demand from economic and broader socioeconomic perspectives
- Developing and evaluating methods for determining nonmarket values associated with outdoor recreation, urban forests, and broader natural resource management
- Integrating recreation and non-recreation values into natural resource management decisions
- Providing criteria and indicators focusing on recreation and other non-commodity values for monitoring sustainable forest ecosystem management
- Examining various aspects of recreation pricing and user fees.
- Previous work with economic issues related to endangered species, land preservation, ecoregions, air pollution, white-water rafting, wildlife management, reservoir management, beach recreation, and agricultural policy.

- Assessing the economic value of recreation access to national forests and wilderness
- Estimating community-level demand for Alaska national forests
- Measuring recreation use, demand, and impact at Bent Creek Experimental Forest
- Determining the economic premium for trees in suburban residences
- Examining the demand for conservation subdivisions
- Assessing public knowledge, attitudes, and preferences related to wildfire and fire management
- Forecasting recreation demand on national forests
- Valuation and economic impact of rail and blue-way trails in Virginia
