ABOUT NEW MYIBFS ACCOUNT

Welcome!

If you are a new user we are glad you are here.  If you are a current IBFS user, you will be able to file all of the applications and use all of the search tools that you are used to using and more.

However, your MyIBFS account operates just a little differently than the old IBFS account.  This document gives users step-by-step instructions to create, register, and access your new MyIBFS account, including forms, filings, and functionality available in both your new MyIBFS as well as your former IBFS accounts.

If you are using MyIBFS as a research tool, you DO NOT NEED TO SET UP AN ACCOUNT. Just use the “Advanced Search” link on the left-hand menu of the MyIBFS Home Page.

FRN (FCC Registration Number)

MyIBFS is designed to provide you with a high level of customer service and personalized functionality.  The key to all of this is what we call an FRN or an FCC Registration Number.  An FRN is a 10-digit number that is assigned to an entity doing business with the FCC through the Commission Registration System (CORES).  This unique FRN is used to identify the entity’s business dealings with the FCC.

MyIBFS uses FRNs as the means by which you can perform a myriad of activities, including database searches, account management, application preparation, application routing, and fee payment.

To learn more about FRNs, please visit FCC Registration.

The chart below should help explain when FRNs are used in the MyIBFS system.

To register a MyIBFS Account

To log into your MyIBFS Account

To identify the Applicant of an application

To identify the Contact of an application

To identify the Assignee of an assignment application

To identify the Transferee of a transfer of control application

To route an application to another FRN holder for review/update

To pay for an application

The benefits of using FRNs within MyIBFS include:

·        Integrates the MyIBFS log-in process with CORES.

·        Minimizes the number of account IDs and passwords to remember.

·        Pre-fills entire sections of application data using FRNs

·        Ensures that all applications have the most up-to-date information concerning Applicants, Contacts, Assignees and Transferees.

·        Centralizes the FRN in CORES.

·        Centralizes the FRN reset function at the CORES Help Desk.

MyIBFS Workspace

A new concept we’ve incorporated into the MyIBFS system is that of the account holder’s “Workspace.”  You (the Preparer), your client (Applicant) or your company (Contact) can hold the MyIBFS Account.  Once you’ve logged into your MyIBFS account, you can manage your filings through a number of useful services the system now offers.

The following illustration should give you a visual representation of the “Workspace” concept and the services offered now (and those planned for the future) to help you manage your filings.

Steps to Create Your New MyIBFS Account:

We all know that establishing a new account in any electronic filing system for the first time can be daunting, so to help allay any concerns you may about these procedures, we’ve prepared the following step-by-step guide to walk you through the account set up process.

Please take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with these instructions and then bon voyage!

STEP 1:  Creating a New FRN (If you wish to establish a MyIBFS account using your, your company’s or your client’s FRN, and the FRN is already established, you may skip this step and move to Step 2.)

From the Address line of your browser, type in www.fcc.gov, and then press enter.  This will take you to the FCC Home Page, where you will click on the E-filing link at the top of the page.  Scroll down the page until you see the url:  Obtaining a FCC Registration Number (FRN) from the COmmission REgistration System (CORES); click on it.  The FCC CORES Registration System home page displays.  Click on the Register button and answer the interactive questions until you’ve created an FRN password and are issued an FRN.  Both the FRN and FRN password are required to create a MyIBFS account.

STEP 2:  Creating a New MyIBFS Account (For this step all users will need an FRN and FRN password.)

From the Address line of your browser, type in fjallfoss.fcc.gov/myibfs, and press enter.  This will take you to the MyIBFS Home page.  Click on the link at the top of the MyIBFS Homepage under the Useful links area entitled, “Creating an IBFS Account.

Enter your FRN and FRN Password.  Click the Confirm button.  See Graphic 2.

Once complete, this FRN and FRN password will serve as your new MyIBFS Account login and password, and will give you access to your Workspace.

STEP 3:  Converting Accounts (for current IBFS Users only)

If you are a current IBFS user and wish to access your previous filings, you will also need to convert your existing IBFS account(s) and link it to your new FRN-based MyIBFS account.  You may convert an existing account either by clicking on the link under the Useful Links area at the top of the home page entitled, “Convert your old IBFS Account,” or by moving to the “Convert an Account” screen immediately after registering your FRN.

Enter your MyIBFS FRN and FRN password.  Enter your existing IBFS Account ID and password.  Press “Link.”

To convert and link multiple existing IBFS accounts, repeat this step until all accounts are converted and linked to your new FRN-based account.  When finished, press the “Finished” button.  See Graphic 4.
