Summary
New-ID: NBI06 Dataset covers mean annual rainfall distribution, number of wet days, wind speed and velocity. The Africa Meteorological Dataset documentation Files: RAINFALL.E00 Code: 100009-001 WETDAYSLL.E00 100010-001 WVEL.E00 100011-001 AFRAINX.IMG 100009-002 AFWINDX.IMG 100011-002 ... Vector Members The files are in Arc/Info Export format and should be imported with the Arc/Info command Import cover In-Filename Out-Filename. The Africa Meteorological dataset is part of the UNEP/FAO/ESRI Database project that covers the entire world but focused on Africa. The maps were prepared by Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI), USA. Most data for the database were provided by Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Soil Resources, Management and Conservation Service Land and Water Development Division, Italy. This dataset was developed in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), Kenya. The base maps used were hand drawn climate maps from FAO. All sources were re-registered to the FAO Soil Map of the world (1984) in Miller Oblated Stereographic projection by comparing known features on the basemap and the source maps. The digitizing was done with a spatial resolution of 0.002 inches. The maps were then transformed from inch coordinates to latitude/ longitude degrees. The transformation was done by an unpublished algorithm (by US Geological Survey and ESRI) to create coverages for one-degree graticules. ESRI, 380 New York Street, Redlands, CA 92373, USA The RAINFALL data shows the mean annual rainfall distibution in line and polygon format. The WETDAYSLL data shows the number of wetdays per year as polygon and line data in latitude/longitude (see UNEP/FAO/ESRI directory) The WVEL data shows the Mean annual Wind Velocity data in polygon and line format.
