Summary
South Atlantic N. pachyderma Stable Isotope and Abundance Data

Table 1 (Site.xls and Site.txt) presents site locations for all data used in
the original reference.

Table 2 (pachy_iso.xls and pachy_iso.txt) presents the stable isotope
composition, estimated calcification depth, calcification temperatures,
ambient d13Ceq, and carbon Isotope ... disequilibrium determined for N. pachyderma
(s.) recovered from surface and Last Glacial sediments in the South Atlantic
Ocean. The d18O and d13C of N. pachyderma (s.) measured from sediment traps
and surface marine sediments were compiled from the literature. Only surface
sediment and sediment trap samples from the South Atlantic basin are included
in the compilation.

The apparent calcification depth was estimated by finding the depth at which
the d18O of N. pachyderma (s.) is approximately equal to the d18O predicted
for calcite formed in equilibrium with seawater (d18Oeq). Values for d18Oeq
were determined as described in Kohfeld et al. (2000) using February
temperature and salinity data from Levitus and Boyer [1994] along 2.5°E,
d18Oeq equation of Kim and O'Neil [1997], and a d18O-Salinity (S) relationship
determined using Geochemical Ocean Sections Study (GEOSECS) data.

Ambient preindustrial d13Ceq and the Mackensen d13Ceq were determined for the
estimated depth of calcification using d13C of TCO2 data from Mackensen et al.
[1993; 1996], and d13C formed in equilibrium (d13Ceq) were determined after
Romanek et al., [1992].

Table 3 (Multinet_foram.xls and Multinet_foram.txt) presents abundance counts
of total planktonic foraminifera counted from Multinet plankton tows taken
from the Drake Passage (ANT X/5, August-September, 1992).
