Abstract:
JEFFERY PEIPERT WOMEN & INFANTS HOSPITAL, PROVIDENCE RI PHYSICIAN/PATIENT PREFERENCES IN HYSTERECTOMY R03 HS09846-01 11/01/98 DESCRIPTION: The purpose of this project is to study physician and patient preferences in hysterectomy. The application proposes to conduct a series of qualitative, focus group interviews with physicians and patients regarding issues that affect preferences and decision making surrounding the question of whether to undergo a hysterectomy. This project will use physician focus groups to identify factors contributing to clinician's decision regarding the surgical approaches to hysterectomy, and patient focus groups to determine the contribution of patient needs, preferences, availability, and use of health care information in the patient decision making process for hysterectomy. From analysis of the content of these interviews, the researchers propose to identify the ways patients needs, preferences, and use of health care information impacts their clinical decisions.
