Pentwater Receives $3 Million Loan, $500,000 Grant for Wastewater Disposal

Project Totals $4 Million and Will Serve Nearly 800 Rural Customers

Washington, Aug 19 -

The U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development program has awarded Pentwater with a $3 million loan and $500,000 grant to renovate and upgrade its wastewater treatment system, which will enable the village to lift a six-month moratorium on new construction.

“Pentwater is an attractive community for both year-round residents and summer tourists,” said U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Holland. “Improving its wastewater treatment system is an investment in the local quality of life and economic development in the rural village.”

The improvements will include the upgrading of the existing lagoon system for treatment of the wastewater with ultimate disposal of the treated water to land through Rapid Infiltration Beds. The project will also include improvements to the existing sewage pump stations and the replacement of a portion of existing sanitary sewers. The project is anticipated to serve 795 customers. The project includes a $500,000 applicant contribution for a total project cost of $4 million.

“Lifting the six-month moratorium on building will allow us to again build upon the community’s positive development,” Pentwater Village President Juanita Pierman said. “Upgrading local infrastructure will help to ensure that the village can thrive well into the future.”
