A.2 Lexical Type Definition Requirements (LTDR)

Subclauses:

This clause states the requirements for the formal definition of lexical types. A "lexical type" is a pattern of characters to which a character string can conform. The pattern is called a "lexical model". A lexical type declaration associates a name with a lexical model, defining a named lexical type.

Lexical types defined in accordance with these requirements are used in conjunction with the HyTime lexical model notation (HyLex; see A.2.3 HyTime lexical model notation (HyLex)) to prescribe the lexical characteristics of attribute values and of the data content of elements (see 5 Notation and A.5.4 Lexical types). They are also used when searching a "match domain" for strings or token lists that satisfy a lexical pattern (see A.4.4.2 Data tokenizer (DATATOK) grove construction).
