Abstract The Atlantic Generating Station will consist of two floating nuclear plants (FNP'S), situated within a protective breakwater. The proposed site is located approximately three miles offshore on the southern coast of New Jersey. The hulls for the floating nuclear plants are large welded steel barges; each 400' square with a draft of approximately 34'. Displacement is approximately 150,000 tons. With particular emphasis directed toward maintaining the integrity of the FNP hulls and mooring facilities, cathodic protection was selected as the primary means of achieving corrosion control. An extensive review of all available equipment was made to select and design the protective system components. This paper discusses the development of the design for the cathodic protection system.
