Abstract This research was conducted to understand the inherent laws on the suppression of expansion due to the alkali-aggregate reaction by the addition of fly ash to concrete. The data was analyzed using three approaches – fuzzy neural network (FNN), regressive analysis and broken-line graph. Different types of Portland cement and fly ash were collected, with igneous rock used as the reactive aggregate, for a total of 196 groups of test data analyzed. By using FNN, it appears that some of the coefficients in the calculation formula of the sodium equivalent were too large. The authors advise that in the future, observations should be made of the samples stored in a wet environment at ordinary temperatures.
