I've noticed that when running in 5.3.1 on the 5.3.1 or the 5.1 output none of the COT hits are displayed. All that needs to be done to correct this is to enable CotqModule in the evd script. I think this should be default. - Matt Herndon Reported

Hi, the CMX event display pictures are not totally correct. I know the r-phi view issue is old and is not so easy to fix, but the cdf 3-d view also seem to have some problems in the cmx hit coordinates, too. I am not saying this a number one proirity problem, however, the evd displays are sometimes confusing the shift crew as well. thank you so much for all the help! Muge ps: i can show some events upon some request. i think it is better then a description. Reported

Hi, this is about the CMX detector display on COT canvas . If one counts the number of arch wedges, one ends up with a number of 20 (instead of the correct number which is 18) and the phi=0 line does not in reality go through a wedge as is the case in current implementation! The arches seem to start at correct place at the bottoms, but then the divison in phi is wrong, as it seems. Could you please look into this please? This is very crucial to match the hits to the wedges visually and it's mistaken and difficult this way. thank you very much! Muge Reported

When I run the event display (evd) using the lego view of the calorimeter, I have problems picking a tower and getting the wedge view. I click on the "pick" button and highlight the tower (it turns red). The menu which allows me to view the wedge display is not visible (disabled?) However, I can click the "pick" and click on the tower (unhighlighted) and I get the wedge view display. Would you look into this? Reported

Hello, as I have written in one of my previous requests and bugs reports, situation has worsened - today Production Farm produces data with 4.5.2 version of CDF Software and evd v4.3.0 cannot be used anymore to create CDF Live events any more, since it eats all of the memory and consequently crashes with all other daemons on the givewn computer, since it takes some time to get Signal handler actually to kill the evd. So far, no one replied to my previous requests, namely that this does not work anymore: root [0] gEdManager->OpenDisplay("cot"); // COT root [1] Float_t cw = gDisplay->ViewPad()->GetWw(); root [2] Float_t ch = gDisplay->ViewPad()->GetWh(); root [3] Float_t r = cw/ch; root [4] gEdManager->OpenDisplay("cot"); // COT2 root [5] gEdManager->OpenDisplay("cot"); // COT3 root [10] TCotDisplay* cot2 = (TCotDisplay*)gEdManager->ObjectList()->FindObject("cot_2"); root [11] cot2->ViewPad()->Range(-250,-250/r,250,250/r); Error: illegal pointer to class object cot2 0x0 1921 FILE:/tmp/fileNiC8th_cint LINE:1 *** Interpreter error recovered *** This used to work in 4.3.0 and no-one replied to me how to do the same thing in higher version. There have been recent reports of strange events having very strange hit patterns - in particular with HV off. In addition in the shift log today there is a report that they come in "groups of 4". 4 is a pretty suspicious number (being the number of Level 2 buffers). In the display header you show things like the trigger bits and Myron Mode. Could you also display the Level 2 buffer, and perhaps also the value of the bunch crossing counter for the event being displayed. thanks for your consideration. Jimmy Reported

Hello all, I'd like to know what determines physical size of a window when I do f.e. the following command: gEdManager->OpenDisplay("cdf1"); what I've seen is that the size of the window (in pixels) varies between versions of CDF release as well as with the computer on which it runs. I assume that you have somewhere a calculation from which you determine this, but I need to have fixed sizes, because when I save canvas as gif, the physical sizes of the saved gif depend on the size of the window. I am tired of adjusting those parameters every time I change version or move the software to another computer. In other words, what I need is to be able to set the physical size of the window (canvas). Is there a way to do that? Thanks, Miro Reported

Hi Andrei, I would like to request a number of enhancements for depicting muons. They are prioritized in descending order. 1. The hits in the CMP appear outside the CMP detector. Not long ago we started to specify the positions of the CMP walls because for some runs they were not in the nominal position. Perhaps this is why evd is wrong. 2. Please draw the outline of each CMU and CMX wedge, rather than the rings that are there now. The segmentation is wrong and confusing. (Each wedge is 15 degrees, so there should be 24 around the full 360 degrees.) 3. I have the impression that evd reruns muon reconstruction because the results on the display are not the same as what I get in my program. A peek at /tmp/evd.tcl.schmittm seems to confirm this: you are running most of AllPath. I think this is not a good way for evd to run (except in the control room, of course), because one wants to see what is in a given file and debug code. 4. Can you use different colors for hits on the east and west side muon detectors, especially the CMX? 5. We would like to have a mark showing where the track is extrapolated to. This is difficult for you to do now, but Muge Karagoz is working on a method which will return you those coordinates and a direction for any given muon. 6. When I click on a muon stub, it would be nice to see which system it is in, the `wedge' or `region' as appropriate, and the number of hits. 7. Ultimately, I would like to get the most basic muon information (match, etc.) when I click on a COT track which is a muon. This means reverse-matching the tracks to the muons; perhaps Ken knows a good way to do this. You might consider showing muons (and electrons) in a different color from `ordinary' tracks. 8. The zoom feature is nice and very useful. A more useful one would allow me to specify a box with the mouse. Or perhaps to click with the mouse at a point and zoom in on the point. So, this is quite a long list, but some of the items should be rather easy. Let me know if I should explain more about any of these items. thanks, Michael Reported

1) From the event display, when saving a file as eps, gif etc it would be nice if the run number and event number would be automatically added to the file name. Like: rz_1.eps -> rz_r123_e456.eps This would allow you to save multiple events from a session without over writing the file. 2) It would be nice to have the calorimeter information added to the rz view. 3) The tracks in the rz view sometimes look funny when the track crosses the plane through which the rz cut is made. So the track starts out on the bottom of the picture then jumps to the top with a line joining them. 4) It would be nice to be able to specify wild cards when reading in files from the evd script. Like : evd niceEvents_*.root 5) The tracks in the rz view extend beyond the COT. Maybe one want to cut them off before exiting the COT. Reported

It would be nice if evd did not check the the trigger DB for every empty run section. I have files with 20k empty run sections, but only 100 events, and it is very slow to go through the 100 events. I think this might make things much faster. Do you think there is a way to do this? I think this will get more and more important as people are filtering out rare events from many runs. Also is it possible to add the L3 Path to the trigger list? thanks! greg Reported

Hello all, we've been efficiently running LIVE event display http://www.fnal.gov/pub/inquiring/live_events/index.html with 3.18.3 before, but since the data is no longer compatible we had to switch to 4.0.0 to be able to display these data. As you can see from the pictures one you click at the link "collisions from CDF", you will find out a few things: 1. There are no muon hits visible on the pictures in the upper row. 2. Lego plot is empty. 3. One does not see geometry of the CDF detector for the 5th picure. 4. One does not see towers on the last one. This is one of the things that Fermilab is going to present at the SuperComputing conference in Denver, Nov.10-16 2001, so I would appreciate if someone could have a look into these problems asap. Hi, I noticed that in the COT event display, the 'red' hits, that lie along reconstructed tracks don't line up well with the tracks. In the stereo layers, that is expected and unavoidable, but even in the axial superlayers the hits don't line up to segments. When I switch off CdfTracks and type in '132' at COT-cuts, the display looks dramatically better! but when I switch back on CdfTracks, the red hits still lie scattered around. So it seems to me the COT hits in the event display are by default positioned by one clock cycle off. This has even made it to our PR plots (1st Z->ee on http://www-cdf.fnal.gov/upgrades/collisions.html) I'd appreciate it this could be fixed, the event display will look a lot more convincing! Hi, in order for the event display to be useful for the silicon system, we need to be able to: [CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT:] a) Color code the si_hits that are attached to tracks. (Like the COT hits are). b) be able to select CdfTracks with other quantities besides just eta and Pt. Things like numSIHits, numSIHitsPhi/St/Z etc. Also, we should be able to remove obviously BAD tracks (cut on chi2, phi0, Z0, and other track qualities). [WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE:] c) A way to cut on Si cluster charge, or extent (number of strips in cluster) or noise of strips in cluster. Hopefully, none of this is too difficult. Please let me know. I believe the event display could become a powerful tool for silicon debugging. cheers, Amit Reported

This is a repeat of a long-standing request for a simple RZ view to match the current RPhi (COT) view. Note that this is not the same as a particular orientation of the full 3D view. An RZ view preserves the polar angle of all trajectories, not just those of a certain Phi as is the case in a 3D view. This is really useful for the quick scanning of events when you are looking for particles in a certain polar angle or eta range. I think this was planned to appear, but I don't see it yet. Thanks very much. Reported

Hi, The xtrp extrapolation bits look quite good. Thanks very much for implementing them. There is a problem with the crack bits, though, and it arises from the code that I provided to pull the crack bits out of TCMD. In Tedmanager.cc, line 1259 it says int i = imatch * 12 This is incorrect, it should say: int i = imatch * 2 And I believe this will correctly fill the cracklo and crackhi arrays. Sorry for the mistake. thanks, Kevin Reported

Hi! This is actually more like a question. I used development version of event display to check the silicon hits. And besides the usual lines which represent the reconstruction, there are also many square pads on the lines. We are confused by what they are. Could you tell us? Thanks in advance. Eiko Reported

Hi, could you please modify the evd script, so that is uses the same way to get the evd.exe as the mon script. In other words use "which" instead of assuming the exe to be in a specific directory. In the moment evd does not work with cdfsoftb0( the cdfsoft release for the control ;the setup and some pather are slightly different ) and the L3 people would like to use evd with this release. In the moment I have hacked the evd script for cdfsoftb0 on b0dap31, but it would be nice if it would be working with the next integration/frozen release. Thanks a lot, Hartmut. Reported

In CDF Run II Event Display when using COT display by rightclicking the mouse a menu pops up (TCotDisplay::cot_1), one of its items is SetDisplayCotHits. It looks like this item is inversed i.e. when you check it it does NOT display COT hits, and when you uncheck it the COT hits will be displayed Reported

Hello, I noticed today that the event diplay is incorrectly displaying the location of hits on the south muon wall (CMP region 2). It is showing hits with low stack numbers (e.g. stack 7) near the bottom of the wall. For the south wall, stack 0 is at the top of the wall. Kevin Lannon Reported

This may turn out not to be a bug at all, but we need a definitive answer. The EVD displays several "holes" in the calorimeter lego plot (see today's shift log for a picture). At first we thought it was just doing some pedestal subtraction, but several of the control room experts seem to think this is not the case. Can you tell us once and for all: Is there a pedestal subtraction taking place in the evd, or is there a more serious problem? Thanks, The Aces Reported

Hello, I am working at National Geographic Society and need photo showing collision. We are doing a one page spread to inform students about how Synthetic elements above atomic number 93 are made. We want to include a photograph of the particle accelerator at the Fermi Labs. This page is for middle school (8th grade). I am looking for reference material to show atoms fusing as well. Do you fuse atoms in your accerlerator? Do you discover new elements after collisions? Are any of the colorful images I have looked at on this site suitable to show students collision? Hopefully you can respond soon.....Paula Dailey 202 857-7074 Reported

Hi, I am trying to use your evd, which seems nice to display first event. when I click next event bottom, it core dumped. Also, it would be nice to have some real examples in the documentation to show you the step by step: For example, to display the tracks from B hadron from top decayand to zoom in the decay vertices. Right now, you had an example "sel("B",3,3,"ONLY"), but did not work: Error: No symbol gMcEvent in current scope FILE:/cdf/code/cdfsoft/dist/releases/development/RootEventDisplay/scripts/macros.C LINE:28 Error: Failed to evaluate gMcEvent->NParticles() FILE:/cdf/code/cdfsoft/dist/releases/development/RootEventDisplay/scripts/macros.C LINE:28 cheers weiming yao Reported
