Rio Grande City CBP Agents Seize 1,695 Pounds of Marijuana

contacts for this news releaseLa Grulla, Texas — On January 31, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Border Patrol agents intercepted 1,695 pounds of marijuana in La Grulla, Texas. The value of the narcotics is more than $1.3 million.The seizure occurred when agents assigned to the Rio Grande City station patrolling the border became aware of a possible drug smuggling operation in La Grulla, Texas. Agents encountered a red pick up truck traveling north away from the river and attempted to stop the vehicle. When agents engaged their emergency lights, the driver sped off in an attempt to elude agents. A short while later, agents located the vehicle, which had been abandoned by the driver, approximately one mile north of their location. A search of the abandoned truck netted a total of 147 bundles of a green leafy substance, which tested positive for marijuana. The marijuana weighed a total of 1,695 pounds and is valued at $1,356,000.
