Annotation: This report summarizes Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) programs and activities for fiscal year 1985 and presents current statistical data on various criminal justice issues.
Abstract: BJS collects, analyzes, publishes, and disseminates statistical information on crime, victims, offenders and criminal justice system operations. It also provides financial and technical support to State agencies and analyzes national information policy. During 1985, BJS prepared and disseminated 39 reports and data releases. BJS reports and bulletins cover such topics as crime trends and volume, victimization, victim-offender relationships, characteristics of various types of crime (rape, burglary, robbery, automatic teller fraud and theft), victim-witness programs, drug/alcohol-crime relationships, costs of crime, public response to crime, court processing, corrections, and recidivism. In addition, BJS provides support to State agencies, including State Statistical Analysis Centers (SAC's). SAC narratives, listing of sources of information on State activities, BJS bulletins list, and source notes.
