Foreword

At the American Geophysics Union (AGU) Spring Meeting, Baltimore, Maryland, May 24-28, 1993, there were a number of papers presented that described research progress in the First ISCCP Regional Experiment (FIRE), Phase II project. While most of the papers dealt with the Atlantic Stratocumulus Transition Experiment (ASTEX) field experiment, Cirrus and International Satellite Cloud Climatology Project (ISCCP) research activities were also presented.

This document contains the abstracts of the FIRE papers that were presented in oral and poster sessions, courtesy of the AGU. This will allow for a more complete dissemination of FIRE research progress to the FIRE science community. Note that there will be a NASA Conference Publication titled "FIRE Cirrus Science Conference" (in preparation) which will contain the short papers presented at the Cirrus Conference, Breckinridge, Colorado, June 14-17, 1993.

The program managers from the Office of Naval Research, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, National Science Foundation, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Department of Energy, and Department of Defense would like to recognize Dr. Bruce Albrecht, Pennsylvania State University, for his diligent efforts in coordinating the several ASTEX sessions at the AGU meeting. The managers would also thank the FIRE researchers, not only their dedication and teamwork during the field experiment phase, but also their scientific excellence and timely research progress in ASTEX and other FIRE Phase II research.
