FILE LIBRARY: EPA_TI or EPA_TIS (Subscription) FILE NAME: README.DOC EPA Pesticide Tolerance Index System (TISInfo) The EPA Pesticide Tolerance Index System (TISInfo) is now available through The Federal Bulletin Board. The complete set of files needed to run TISInfo is: GLOSSARY.TXT Glossary of abbreviations used in reports TISINFO.EXE Retrieval and report generation program TISINDEX.EXE Database indexing program TIS_HELP.DBF Key definition help database TIS_HEL1.NTX Key definition help index TICHEM.DBF Chemical database (Updated Monthly) TICOMM.DBF Commodity database (Updated Monthly) TIMASTER.DBF Master database (Updated Monthly) XREFCHEM.DBF Chemical cross-reference database (Updated Monthly) NOTE: TISINFO.EXE requires a DOS PC with a minimum of 640 KB of memory and at least 12 megabytes of free hard disk drive space for data and index files. TISINFO has been tested on 386 and faster PCs. It has NOT been tested on 286 and XT-class PCs, but should work, although at a much slower speed. DATABASE UPDATES: Each month a self-executing compressed file named TISmmyy.EXE (where mmyy represent the month and year of release) is prepared and uploaded to The Federal Bulletin Board. It contains the set of database files released during the month and year specified in the file name and provides data from the prior month. Thus the file named TIS1293.EXE was released in December, 1993, and contains data from November, 1993. The complete set of database files for a single month is: TICHEM.DBF Chemical database TICOMM.DBF Commodity database TIMASTER.DBF Master database XREFCHEM.DBF Chemical cross-reference database TIS_HELP.DBF Key definition help database TIS_HEL1.NTX Key definition help index NOTE: All program and database files must be in the SAME subdirectory to work correctly. FIRST TIME USER: To prepare for using the EPA Pesticide Tolerance Index: 1. Make a subdirectory named TIS_INFO (or an alternative name of your own choice) on your hard disk drive. Be sure that there is at least 12 MB of free space on your hard disk. Example: C:\>md TIS_INFO 2. Download the TISINFO.EXE, TISINDEX.EXE and most current TISmmyy.EXE files from The Federal Bulletin Board. The files should be downloaded into the TIS_INFO subdirectory, or copied into that subdirectory after downloading. 3. Change to the TIS_INFO subdirectory and decompress the file TISmmyy.EXE by typing the file name (without the extension). This will cause the compressed file to self-extract the current set of files listed above under Database Updates. The program files (TISINFO.EXE and TISINDEX.EXE) do NOT need to be decompressed. Example: C:\>cd TIS_INFO C:\TIS_INFO>TISmmyy 4. Follow instructions below for ALL USERS. REPEAT USER: To use the EPA Pesticide Tolerance Index System (TISInfo): 1. Download the most current TISmmyy.EXE file from The Federal Bulletin Board. The file should be downloaded into the subdirectory where your TISINFO and TISINDEX programs are stored or copied into that subdirectory after downloading. You may wish to delete all prior database (.DBF) and index (.NTX) files before you begin. If not, the files will be overwritten during decompression of the TISmmyy.EXE file and execution of the TISINDEX program. Example: C:\>cd TIS_INFO C:\TIS_INFO>erase *.DBF C:\TIS_INFO>erase *.NTX 2. Change to the TISINFO subdirectory and decompress the file TISmmyy.EXE by typing the file name (without the extension). This will cause the compressed file to self-extract the current set of files listed above under Database Updates. Example: C:\>cd TIS_INFO C:\TIS_INFO>TISmmyy ALL USERS: 1. After completing the appropriate downloading and decompression of the database files from one of the above user sequences, run the program TISINDEX and select the option to index all files. After the indexing is completed, TISINFO is operational. Example: C:\TIS_INFO>tisindex NOTE: The index generation can take up to one hour to complete, depending on the speed of the machine executing the TISINDEX program. 2. Start the TISINFO program. The first TISINFO screen will appear. Proceed with your search as indicated on succeeding screens. Follow on screen instructions to generate reports. Example: C:\TIS_INFO>tisinfo *********************************** The EPA Pesticide Tolerance Index is available from the Federal Bulletin Board in two ways: subscription and single purchase. The File Library EPA_TIS is intended for subscribers only and is not accessible to non-subscribers. It contains the software propgrams and the latest single issue of the database file. Subscribers have access to the EPA_TIS File Library and may download the program software and 12 monthly issues of the database files for an annual fee of $72. The File Library EPA_TI was established for single purchases of the software and individual issues of the monthly database files. Files from December 1993 forward are available in the EPA_TI File Library. Purchased individually in File Library EPA_TI, the retrieval and reporting software (file name TISINFO.EXE) and the indexing software (file name TISINDEX.EXE) costs $13 in total and the monthly issues cost approximately $7 each (depending on file size).
