Message of the Day

REP. ROB ANDREWS MEETS WITH CONSTITTUENTS
TO REPORT ON EFFORT TO COMBAT TERRORISM
October 19, 2001

Today, I met with students of Palmyra High School in Palmyra and employees of Slack, Inc. in Thorofare to answer their questions regarding the ongoing effort to combat terrorism.  This morning we learned that Special Operations forces have been working on the ground with in Northern Afghanistan to aid opposition forces combating the Taliban and Al Qaeda.  The U.S. Special forces have been providing guidance and strategic support to the opposition forces but to my knowledge have not engaged in any direct combat.

I explained to these students and employees that the primary goal of the mission in Afghanistan is to eliminate both the Taliban and Al Qaeda's hold on that country.  This will not be accomplished by air strikes alone.  I expect that the level of activity of U.S. ground troops will continue to escalate in the upcoming days and weeks.  I also expect that the global coalition assembled to accomplish this goal will prevail.

I thank both groups for their opportunity to meet with them and I am very impressed by their patriotism and dedication to this effort to combat global terror.
