First off opt-out should be imediate, and with most repetial companies it is. Second the do not email registry sounds like a good idea, but will probably be as effective as the can-spam act. Third the can-spam act has been as effective as I expected it to be, worthless. Even with the spam filter at my isp, the amount of spam has more than doubled, 90% do not comply with the regulation and most have an come from an overseas email address. The act would have been a bit more effective if you had to opt-in to receive mail which any company that I would do business with uses.
