Frequently Asked Questions

Will Federal collaborators be supported (salary, travel) with CAMEO funds?

NSF’s Biological Oceanography’s policy is that Federal collaborators cannot request support (salary, travel) nor can they be lead PIs on NSF awards.  No-cost collaboration is allowed (and encouraged).

NOAA funds may be awarded to support Federal collaborators if funding allows.  The way in which those funds will be dispersed will be separate from NSF.

Will CAMEO fund non-U.S. scientists?

We follow NSF policy here.  NSF’s Biological Oceanography Program has a policy of supporting U.S. scientists.  It is NSF policy that for international collaborations, the foreign scientific counterparts will obtain research support from their national (or multinational, e.g., with the E.U.) funding agencies.

If a proposed project involves cooperative groups, should multiple proposals be submitted?

No, please submit only one proposal.  You can, however, include budgets for multiple subcontracts in grants.gov.

Do you need a 'Results from Prior Support' section in the Project Description?

This section should indeed be part of the 15 pp limit project description (as described in the NSF Grant Proposal Guide).  Additional sections such as 'Current and Pending Support' and the 'Biographical Sketches' should be included in your CAMEO proposal package, but not count toward the 15 pp limit.
