Taxpayer Assistance Orders

The National Taxpayer Advocate's statutory authority includes the authority to issue Taxpayer Assistance Orders (TAOs). TAOs may order the Internal Revenue Service to take an action, cease an action, or review a decision.

Qualifying taxpayers may request help from the Taxpayer Advocate Service by completing Form 911, Application for Taxpayer Assistance Order, and mailing or faxing it to the Taxpayer Advocate office in the state or city in which they reside.

For the address, or additional information, call the National Taxpayer Advocate's toll-free number at 1-877-777-4778 or refer to Publication 1546, How to Get Help With Unresolved Tax Problems.
