DSRC ATM REMOVAL

On March 3rd, Elevations Credit Union will be removing the ATM machine from the DSRC. The reason behind the decision to remove this machine is based upon the fact that this particular ATM does not generate sufficient volume to justify its continued support, maintenance and operation.

Elevations apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and has posted a map on the ATM machine indicating the nearest locations of other machines in the general area.

If you have any questions or comments, you may e-mail Elevations at: ecuservice@elevationscu.com Elevations will respond to your e-mail within 2 business days.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH

Black history and culture are such a part of the American fabric that it's difficult to imagine a time when that wasn't so. To recall and celebrate the positive contributions to our nation made by people of African descent, American historian Carter G. Woodson established Black History Week beginning on Feb. 12, 1926.  Extended to a month-long celebration in 1976, Black History Month is an opportunity to emphasize the history and achievements of African Americans.
Members from NIST will celebrate Black History Month in February with free films, literature, audio books, music.  The items, which include films like “An American Gangster” and “Akeelah and the Bee”, books like “Phenomenal Woman” by Maya Angelou, and “A Hand to Guide Me” by Denzel Washington are available for check out in back of Building 1.  Visit and explore the timeline of milestones of Black History.

BROWN BAG SEMINAR

NEW BOULDER CORPORATE SERVICES WEBSITE

A new secure Boulder Corporate Services website has just been launched!  This site is available to computers on the Boulder DOC campus and to NOAA employees anywhere who can validate with their NEMS username and password. It is not available to non-government employees.  The URL or address is:  https://inside.boulder.doc.gov/corporate

This website replaces www.masc.noaa.gov and is an important part of the Boulder Campus employee website, https://inside.boulder.doc.gov On February 12 a redirect was made on the original MASC website www.masc.noaa.gov to automatically take visitors to the new website,  https://inside.boulder.doc.gov/corporate.

The information on this new website is structured much the same as it was on www.masc.noaa.gov; however the site has been streamlined to point to headquarters sites when appropriate.

Please contact Joan Tomek x5287 if  you have questions about this change. We hope this new site will help you find the support you need from the Boulder Corporate Services staff.

PHYSICAL REVIEW FOCUS

Physical Review Focus (focus.aps.org) is a free service of the American Physical Society (APS). Selected physics research published in Physical Review (PR) and Physical Review Letters (PRL) are highlighted, including videos.

The site also provides an archive of links to Physics News Update stories from the American Institute of Physics that cover papers from APS journals.

Story Highlights

    * Landmarks: Laser Cooling of Atoms

"In the 1970s and 80s, researchers developed techniques for cooling atoms to very low temperatures using laser light. The work led to improvements in atomic clocks and the observation of a new ultracold state of matter..."

    * Quantum Blurring

"A coral reef looks a bit blurry to a scuba diver, in part because of light bouncing off of the water's continual density fluctuations, which come from random motions of the warm water molecules. But some of the blurring comes from a constant quantum jiggling of molecules that occurs even close to absolute zero temperature..."
