"Radio FG" Paris: community programmes against AIDS.

OBJECTIVE: Sensitize the listeners of a community radio (gay men, bisexuals, young people) through programmes of information, support and personal stories. METHODS: "Radio FG-Frequence Gaie" (private radio rooted in and produced by the Gay community, broadcasting since 1982 in Paris & Region, 24 hours a day, with programmes of music, information & social interaction) set up in 1992 an "AIDS Programmes Unit" (Unite de Programmes Sida-U.P.S.): a) Producing weekly broadcasts dealing directly with HIV/AIDS: information, debates, personal stories, live with personalities from the gay & AIDS community, with direct participation of the listeners via telephone & minitel. b) Sensitizing & trainning the radio annoncers & DJs on sexuality & HIV prevention, especially using daily evening sex adds. RESULTS & CONLUSION: This interactive radio programming creates an innovative approach to "appropriation" of prevention, allows the direct expression of PLWA, constitutes a documented record of their, & supports them through sharing. Importance of community radio programmes using clear language of the target audience.
