This report describes studies and programs in the areas of juvenile justice and delinquency and the protection of children supported by or proposed for funding by the Research and Development Division of the National Institute for Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. |
Abstract:
|
During FY 1985, four major types of research were supported: (1) analyses of national trends in juvenile delinquency using Uniform Crime Reports, National Crime Survey, and self-report data; (2) examination of the causes and correlates of delinquency and the development of delinquent career patterns (particularly among violent and serious juvenile offenders); (3) integration of research into delinquency causes and correlates with the development of prevention programs; and (4) assessment of child victimization, particularly physical abuse, sexual exploitation, abduction, and missing children. Ongoing research will continue in these areas, and proposed studies will examine such additional issues as juvenile case and court processing and the impact of deinstitutionalization. |
