There should be no fee charged by a consumer reporting agency to US persons or tax paying residents of the US for copies of information retained and required under FCRA section 609(f) on the person. A reasonable fee of not more than $5.00 per report should be lodged, instead, on private companies and government agencies requesting this information. The burden to pay for the service should not be placed on the individual about whom the information is collected, but on the agencies who use this information. This is a more equitable distribution of the cost to maintain information retained by the national credit bureaus.
