2004-02-17 - Terra Direct Broadcast Outage A communication problem arose on February 17, 2004, that affected the Terra (AM-1) spacecraft. The problem was not "on" Terra, but rather with the link between the needed TDRSS spacecraft and the Whitesands Ground Station. In an attempt to preserve the science data on Terra, two direct ground contacts were scheduled. The FOT needed to reconfigure Terra for these ground contacts, which meant disabling Direct Broadcast for two MODIS ground contacts.
The following are the times of the ground contacts for which there would be
no MODIS Direct Broadcast:
2004/048 19:43-19:55 GMT
2004/048 21:21-21:33 GMT
Because the Terra FOT was able to successfully complete their activities on their
first ground contact, the second contact was not needed, and therefore no Direct Broadcast data was lost for that time (21:21-21:33 GMT).
Due to the timely and efficient efforts of the FOT, no science data was lost.
