This booklet provides a State-by-State compilation of statistical and descriptive data on 1984 adult and juvenile correctional costs, personnel, facilities, and populations. |
Abstract:
|
Section 1 delineates annual agency operating budgets and services, the organization of adult and juvenile corrections in State Government, paroling authority characteristics, budgets and expenditures, and personnel gender and ethnicity information. Section 2 provides data on positions, salaries, incentive programs, and fringe benefits. Section 3 covers offender data, including prison population, juvenile and adult offender sex and ethnicity breakdowns, probation and parole populations, and recidivism. Also examined are principal sentencing methods and data on the death sentence (e.g., existence of a death row, method of execution, and prisoners under the death sentence by jurisdiction). The final section provides data on physical plant characteristics, including type of facilities, security levels, prison capacity, conditions of confinement and crowding, and jail-housed prisoners.
