***National Do Not Email Registry: Key issue: this would not reduce the high-volume international/porn/viagra spam. Even worse, this would be a waste of resources and time, and confuse people into thinking something would happen to reduce their spam. ***The effectiveness and enforcement of the CAN-SPAM Act: Again, CAN-SPAM will not reduce the spam from senders who work to elude detection, so how can enforcement be successful? ***Subject line labeling: As stated above, legislation will not make the "elusive" abusive spam senders comply, so what real good will this do? Summary: Congress and other groups need to focus on other methods of reducing spam, such as the "postage stamp" idea. That is brilliant - for those who feel there is a valid return on investment in email marketing can pay for it. The biggest problem is that email is free, and open to the real "abusers". Making honest companies comply with burdensome legislation won't reduce the real problem.
